Individual therapy offers an one-on-one environment between you and your therapist. Together you will work to set goals for treatment and decide the best course of action to help you achieve those goals. Common goals of therapy can be to inspire change in mood or thoughts and to improve quality of life. People may seek therapy for help with issues that are hard to face alone like anxiety, depression, or trauma just to name a few. There are many types of individual therapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). The length of therapy varies from person to person depending on your needs.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one type of individual therapy. It is different than traditional talk therapy. We all have disturbing or distressing memories that may be holding us back from achieving the life we want. EMDR focuses on those distressing memories and through an evidence-based process allows them to become neutral memories. Those upsetting memories will no longer bother you after the treatment is complete allowing you to achieve your full potential. It is commonly used with people with traumatic related disorders (PTSD), anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, panic attacks, and obsessive compulsive disorder.
